A drive system using a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) and a squirrel cage motor was designed to replace a two speed PAM motor for thr rebuild of a unit train wagon tippler. This allowed for higher accuracy in the position control. The tight schedule of the rebuild made any possible delay due to equipment problems unacceptable. At the request of mechanical engineering company a series of tests were designed and performed to verify the correctness of the drive design and to ensure the success of the project.
